Howard Phillips (H.P.) Lovecraft (1890 – 1937) was an American author known for being one of the 20th-century experts on the Gothic Tales of Terror stories. The Cthulhu mythology originated in Lovecraft’s story called “The Call of Cthulhu,” and has since been featured in many graphic novels, books, and games! According to the lore, Cthulhu is the leader of The Old Ones, a species that predates human existence. Their city slipped underneath the Pacific Ocean, within the Earth's Crust. Recognized for his gigantic size and his squid-like facial features, Cthulhu aims to terrorize mankind.
Obverse: Depiction of Cthulhu with the eyes in color. Cthulhu's tentacles wrapped around a ship.
Reverse: Displays the crest of Palau and the year 2023. An image from Lovecraft and the date of birth and death and H.P. LOVECRAFT with years 1890, 1837 are engraved as well.
